So grateful to Jesus and his Course in Miracles and to my Course teacher for almost one year of support and wisdom

Title: Peacemaker

Gender: Male

Age: 37

Sun Sign: Cancer

Chinese Sign: Water Rat

About Me:

So, who am I?  That is a good question.  Perhaps the best question.  Another good one comes from Byron Katie – “Who would I be without my story?”

I am finding it harder and harder to say who I am.  My words do not capture my reality.  Anything that I say about myself is just a story made up of beliefs.  Anything I say will never be good enough.  However, since words are all I have to communicate with on this forum, I will give it a shot.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and work at an in-patient substance abuse facility.  I have recently started my private practice (http://www.center4awakenedliving.com/).  I seem to be moving to a “nondual” approach to therapy (see below for my definition of “nondual psychotherapy”).  This is still relatively new for me, but it seems to be the approach that most suits me.  I have created a pod on this topic
and love to learn about the experiences of other therapists.

Since 2005 I have been a practitioner of The Work of Byron Katie (http://www.thework.com/).  I attended Katie's nine-day “School for The Work” in October 2006.  It was a life-changing experience that has done wonders in helping me embody my Truth.  I use The Work in my personal and professional life.
I am very passionate about it.

I have also received advanced training in “Integrative Restoration – iRest – Yoga Nidra” with Richard Miller (http://www.nondual.com/).  iRest is a meditation technique that helps us learn how to 1) welcome all that is and 2) realize our true nature as Pure Awareness amidst an ever changing existence.  Combining The Work with iRest makes for a penetrating process of self-inquiry that helps us to deconstruct the false self.  What remains is pure gold.

Most recently I have begun a serious study of A Course in Miracles.
I have a Course teacher that I work with twice a week.  I was introduced to my teacher through The Circle of Atonement (http://www.circleofa.org/).
The Circle's website is a wonderful resource for anyone interested
in a serious study of the Course.  I feel that my studies of the Course
are bringing me to a place of understanding and peace that is truly amazing.

The Work, iRest and the Course are transforming my personal and professional life in ways that I never imagined.  I see The Work and iRest as methods that I can use in my personal life and teach in my professional life.  I see the Course as a comprehensive path to salvation
and true awakening.  The Course is fast becoming my “chosen path.”  I feel truly blessed to be embarking on this journey –
this journey without distance.

There is so much more I could say.  There is nothing more I could say.  I have said too much already.

LOVING WHAT IS,

Billy

My Definition of Nondual Psychotherapy

The goal of nondual therapy is to discover who we are without our stories and to expand our capacity to embody True Nature - Welcoming, Spacious Awareness - in every aspect of our lives.

Nondual therapy is rooted in the assumption that our perception of “problems” is itself the problem (which really isn't a problem).  The self-improvement project is a subtle form of self-directed aggression.  Who we are does not need improving.

By de-constructing our “self and world construct system” (James Bugental's term) we are able to uncover underlying, unchanging equanimity, or Presence, and strengthen our capacity to embody Awareness in our day-to-day existence.

This therapeutic process occurs in a certain type of relationship - a “holy encounter” in which what is awake in the therapist meets what is awake in the client - thus healing the client's (and therapist's) perception of self, other and world.

Christ has no body now on earth but yours,

no hands but yours, no feet but yours;

yours are the eyes through which Christ's compassion looks out on the world,

yours are the feet with which He is to go about doing good

and yours are the hands with which He is to bless us now.

Instructions for Doing “The Work of Byron Katie”

The best way to understand The Work is to experience it for yourself.  To get started all you have to do is identify some of your stressful thoughts.  One of the best ways to do that is to fill out a “Judge-Your-Neighbor (JYN) Worksheet.”  Think of a person in your life – past or present – that you have not forgiven 100%.  Then fill out the worksheet with all of your petty, judgemental thoughts about that person.  Once you have filled out the worksheet, start at the top and take one statement at a time through the four questions and turnarounds using a “One-Belief-At-A-Time Worksheet.”  Do this for each statement on the “JYN Worksheet” until you have questioned each thought.

In other words:

Judge your neighbor,
write it down,
ask four questions,
turn it around.

To download a blank “Judge-Your-Neighbor Worksheet” and a blank “One-Belief-At-A-Time Worksheet” go to:

Then click on the menu titled “The Work” to download free Work materials.  You will also find a booklet there called the “Little Book – An Excerpt from Loving What Is” in the “Resources” menu.
