I Don't Have the Answers

Just the other day Richard and I were driving from Monroe, LA to Atlanta, GA and were discussing some of what I learned at The School for The Work. I was sharing with him how I have come to realize that The Work will work as long as the client and I trust the process. The questions will guide the client where he or she needs to go to find the Truth.
As I was sharing this with him the following words formed in my mouth: "I don't have the answers. I have the questions. The clients have the answers inside them and the questions act as a guide to their own Wisdom." Where did that come from? Richard asked me if what I just said was original, and I told him that I was not sure. I do not know if I heard this from Katie or someone else, or if this insight came exclusively from my own experience. All I do know is that this insight blew me away.
It seems to summarize one of the essential truths about The Work and the process of facilitation. The Work works best when I get out of the way and let it do its thing. Any venturing into advice-giving or answer-finding for the client will short-circuit the process of inquiry.
This is also very freeing for me and empowering for the client. It is freeing for me in that I do not have the pressure of finding answers for my client. A heavy burden is lifted. It is empowering for the client because it gives them the experience of finding their own answers and of trusting their own Wisdom. They also have a process that they can use on their own without me. The client is no longer dependent on me or anyone else to guide them. He or she has a tool to help them find their own way. Again, I am free and the client is empowered!
Thank you so much Katie, The School staff, the other participants and me. I am so grateful for The Work and the freedom, peace and truth that it reveals.
